The Fear of Beauty.....and lots of explaing :D

     This year I made it into the AAU Spring by the grace of great marketing on my behalf. So how do you get into the Spring Show? The faculty votes along with other art galleries and only 50 pieces get in. I figured there was no way my piece would get in because of it's conceptual nature. Now the other way to get in is by student voting so I started my brief "vote for me" campaign. I herd I got in by only one vote........Shaaazzzam Student Choice Award! Then I set out to complete my concept for this piece with the installation....and that was the challenge. The original concept was to place the drawing inside a door giving it an illusion of a nude female standing inside of it (I will explain why later on). In order for that to work I would have to: build a frame around the door for support, extend the doors to fit the drawing, create legs to keep the frame from falling and the backing for the drawing to rest on. This was harder to do then the drawing. I really want to thank my friends for helping me.......Gregg, Gue, Yun, David and Joevic....you guys are the best (those are links to their work that also got into the Spring Show). I really wasn't happy with how everything turned out for the show. BFA and MFA Student Choice Award pieces were put in an awkward place and our pictures are not in the Spring Show online catalog. I won't say anymore lol.

     Why? Why is it an installation? Why is her face covered? Omari.....are you crazy? Lol. I believe in taking risks and challenging yourself when it comes to art. This whole piece is about fear...and opening my mind to my fears. The doors represent my mind and the drawing is my fear. I am afraid of women lol. Not the fear of talking to them or being around them. It's more of the fear of the power they have over men (or maybe its just me hehehehe). Heterosexual men need women and because of that need we care about them. When you care about something it always has the opportunity to hurt you. I set out to create a drawing that was scary and beautiful at the same time because women are scary but they are so damn beautiful too lol. I noticed that when you cover a humans face it tends to get creepy. I "think" its because we relate humans to having a face and if it doesn't have a face..it's not human. I really wanted my viewer feel odd but at the same time have this attraction to it. I wanted to understand my fears and conquer it. I realized that in some fears there is beauty. Like when your first meet a woman you really like or when your nervous to talk to one. There is so much beauty and excitement in that fear.I don't know if I conquered my fear but I did make this because of it lol.

     During the Spring Show I stood near my piece and watched people's reaction (that was the highlight of my semester). I honestly didn't care about the award or selling my piece. The only reason why it had a price is because I want a Wacom Cintiq lol....I just want people to see it...I want them to feel some kinda of emotion. I want people to think and ask, "Why?" Always ask, "Why?"

I didn't use any reference for this lol! This is homework for class. Box sculpt 3 heads. The purpose of this is to understand sculpting in stages helps your shapes look a lot nicer and it's easier to add detail when you get to your final subdivision level. Don't ask me what this is heheheheh.

Batman Begins: Scarecrow hallucination scene

Do you remeber the scene where Scarecrow gets a whiff of his own scare toxin? Then he looks at batman and he's this demon. That image was burned in the back of my skull :) Too bad you get to only see it once. So...I decided to try and sculpt it. Still needs some work. I had fun doing this. To me that's the best scene in the movie.

Gaia's Leviathan: Wonder why the grass in your field is so high? Gaia's Leviathan has the ability to control grass in its area. Little is know about the behavior of this creature because of its shy nature. But if the grass in your town or village turns red and grows higher then your homes....Gaia's Leviathan is angry....and probably within 50 yard.

Painter +Photoshop Test

So I spent about a hour trying to make a custom brush in Painter and it still didn't work! Dumb ass Corel Painter....so I combined forces to make Ultra Mega PainterShop ( that's like the Green Ranger and White Ranger combined lol)! I enjoyed the process for this one. I decided to paint some creatures because I don't paint creatures and a lot of my game I ideas have creatures. So practice practice. Everything I create has a story or some kinda of background....gotta practice telling stories too.

Angi: This creature only wakes when the Sun is closest to the Earth. It roams around destroying everything in its path until it reaches its desired destination. When it arrives it burries itself into the ground creating a volcano. It repeats this process until its center magma cools ("The Death of Angi"). During its cooling process it creates a diamond the size of a village. Hundreds of years later the diamond explodes and brings forth a new Angi ("The Birth of Angi").

So I decided to give painter a try because I know that its a great program it just does stupid ass things sometimes. I had to messed around with the brush settings and now I like painter. Last Friday I had my monthly dose of Metamorphica. This workshop is always fun. Crazy costumes +great models + great music + some snacks (because everybody needs a snack lol ) = a great workshop. If you really want to experience something new and challenge yourself......go to this workshop. I only did one decent drawing and I gave it away ;)

Oh and the male model was freaking tight!! Straight out of Dark Crystal or some kind of 80's fantasy movie.

Ahhh! I got lazy because it didn't turn out the way I wanted. I'm having a huge issue right now with my monitor color. The first image is the original (which has more color on my 22inch gateway monitor) and the second image is the one I adjust to make it look like the first image (on my laptop the first image is super muted so I messed with the saturation, levels and color balance). I dont know if I should change my monitor or change my laptop??? I need help!!

I want my my digital paintings to have SSS (sub surface scatter) This is just the beginning of the sss test.. Also my monitor shows a lot more color then my laptop. Does this look dull?
